I had the opportunity to interview a good friend of mine from UnitedPeopleOfSole.net I wanna thank Pat for the chance to do my first interview on my blog.
I ask Pat a couple of question, about his sneaker life, and thing of that.
(Korey) I know you from UPOS (United People Of Sole) what other sites are you known on?
(Pat) Well United is home for anything sneaker related and also just to talk about current events, sports, fashion and just shoot the shit with a chill group of people. However, I'm also pretty well known on Sneakerplay.com & I try to do my part referring members on that site to the United. I also do a little bit of posting on Uptowns.net & the flipjays forum. I posted on Niketalk and even ISS in years past but I don't care for those sites anymore and the corny behaviors that tend to thrive there. United For the Win
(Korey)How did you find out about UPOS?
(Pat) Lol, well the origins of my membership are up for debate. The homie Ant would tell you I was referred by LadyAclass, but I distinctly remember being sent a friend request from United's myspace profile. So by some combination of those two factors I became a member.
(Korey)How did you get involved with collecting sneakers?
(Pat)Well I started purchasing my own sneakers in 2002, and started "collecting" in 2004 after I graduated from high school, began college & got a part time job. Working changed my outlook on the matter, the fact that I was building a collection with my own hard earned money gave the shoes a value beyond just having the latest sneaker of a player I was a fan as a kid. I saw them as an accomplishment and something that signified that I had my business in order.
(Korey)Was there a shoe that you wanted to get, but could not get when you were younger that you have now?
(Pat)The standout shoe from my adolescence that I was ecstatic to obtain in my early adulthood was the Air Jordan 13. It sounds crazy to many other "Jordanheads" I speak to but the 13 stands out more to me than even the 11. I remember being a skinny little kid in the 6th grade, I wore everything from Filas to K-Swiss to even Payless and was happy to get a new pair of any of the above, so you can imagine how I would've felt to own a pair of Flint 13s. Another standout a few years before the 13 was the Penny 2.
(Korey)Whats was you 1st pair of sneakers?
(Pat) I had countless pairs of Reebok, K-Swiss, Adidas, Fila, & And1 shoes growing up. My 1st pair of Nikes were the 20th anniversary Air Force 1s in 2002.
(Korey)Where do you usually get your shoes?
(Pat)You name the store or site & I've probably purchased a pair from them. Champs, footlocker, Footaction, Finishline, Niketown SF, Shady mom and pop spots, honest mom and pop spots, Flight club's website, 23isback, Pickyourshoes, Uptempoair, Kixclusive, virtually every major or somewhat major site selling kicks. I haven't however purchased shoes from sneaker forum marketplaces, the crowd oftentimes comes off as dishonest to me..
(Korey)What were your latest big pick ups?
(Pat)That would have to be my Original Bred 11s. The 11 isn't my favorite Jordan, but I recognize the fact that its a must have for any serious collector. The popularity of that shoe and the response it creates when released is just crazy.
(Korey)How do you decide which pair to wear on a normal, day to day basis?
(Pat)Well you know I have to color coordinate lol, but I basically just try to alternate a lot to keep everything in very good or at least above average condition ( Although I do have those 2 or 3 pairs of beaters to rock whenever, lol). I used to dog my sneakers in high school and ended selling/donating a lot of nice shoes that I wouldn't mind having again. So now I just concentrate on keeping everything fresh..
(Korey)Give me your top five shoes of all time?
(Pat)1) Air Jordan 5 Black/Metallic
2) Air Jordan 13 White/Flint Grey/French Blue
3) Air Penny 2
4) Air Jordan 6
5) Believe it or not, the Air Force 1 is a top sneaker of mine being my 1st Nike shoe. I just don't care for a lot of the color ways that come out and how the shoe has saturated the market in recent years..
(Korey)I want to thank you for participating in this interview, are there any last words you would like to say?
(Pat)Thanks for the opportunity, shouts to everyone at United People of Sole for being cool with me, and just keeping it 100. Don't give up on us people, were a family.
